New Case Of Ebola Virus Detected in the Democratic Republic of Congo

A woman in Congo has contracted Ebola and died recently in a new case of the virus which was detected in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

The Health Ministry of Congo made this report on Sunday 7th of February.

The woman who showed symptoms of the virus had died in a hospital in Butembo on the 3rd of February. She was married to a man who had contacted the virus in a previous outbreak.

It is not yet clear if the case marks the start of a fresh outbreak of the Ebola virus, or if it is a flare-up from an outbreak which had killed over 2,200 people between 2018 to 2030.

According to the Ministry of Health, “The response team is already working hard and they will be supported by the National response team that will visit Butembo”.

People who have come in contact with the dead woman have been traced, and the places she had visited also disinfected, said the World Health Organization, which is helping with the response.

Samples have also been sent to Kinshasa to confirm the link between the previous outbreak and the most recent one. ” It is not unusual for cases to occur following a major outbreak”, the WHO said in a statement.
