Paypal Announces Shutdown of Domestic Payment Service in India

Online financial service Paypal has now announced that they will cease domestic payment services in India, in a statement Friday.

Paypal said, “From 1 April 2021, we will focus all our attention on enabling more international sales for Indian businesses, and shift focus away from our domestic products in India.”

“This means we will no longer offer domestic payment services within India from April 1,” the company said.

Paypal only commented that there was a “shift in priorities” and that some of its employees are now moved to new teams, adding that their workforce in India is expanding, they told TechCrunch.

However, no further details were provided following the decision.

Meanwhile, local business apps such as MakeMyTrip and Swiggy will feel the impact after establishing partnership with the US payment service.
