Sixty percent of Republicans support President Biden’s proposed $1.9 Trillion Stimulus plan, despite resistance from GOP Representatives.
A survey, conducted by Quinnipiac University, found that 64% of Republicans are in favor of the stimulus, along with 90% of Democrats.
This comes amidst negotiations within Congress, with GOP representatives attempting to block the stimulus. The GOP has instead countered with a $618 Billion stimulus, and a lowering of the payout from $1,400 to $1,000.
In response to this, Democrats have moved forward with budget reconciliation, which would allow for the stimulus to pass without approval from the GOP. All Senate Democrats voted to advance the reconciliation, while Senate Republicans voted against it.
Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer has said that the move towards budget reconciliation is not to remove Republicans from the conversation, and that their input on the stimulus is welcome. Senate Democrats could pass the stimulus as early as Friday provided they have a unanimous vote.
