Delhi Police have filed a First Information Report (FIR) over a toolkit containing information on how to back the farmer’s protests in India tweeted by Swedish climate change activist Greta Thunberg.
“Delhi Police has taken cognizance of a toolkit document found on a social media handle that predates and indicates a copycat execution of a conspiracy behind the January 26 violence. The call was to wage economic, social, cultural, and regional war against India,” said Delhi Police Special Commissioner Praveer Ranjan.
The Delhi police clarified that it did not name directly name Thunberg in the case that included charges of sedition, overseas “conspiracy,” and an attempt to “promote enmity between groups”.
The Delhi Police said, “some elements” were trying to take advantage of the ongoing protests, and “one account” which was referring to Thunberg, had posted a toolkit made by the “Poetic Justice Foundation” that was allegedly a “Khalistani organization” front.
In response to growing international criticism, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a statement asking Twitter users to refrain from sensationalizing the issue for the sake of popular hashtags.
Thunberg has already posted an updated toolkit and said that “no amount of hate, threats or violations of human rights will ever change” her support for the farmers.
