Ethiopian authorities have arrested 15 suspects who are allegedly members of a terrorist cell, on accusations that they were plotting to attack the United Arab Emirates Embassy in capital Addis Ababa, state media reported.
Authorities seized heavy weapons and explosive devices from the suspects, who also planned to attack the city.
The National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) has confirmed that 15 people were arrested for planning to attack the embassy “ to tarnish the image of the city,” the Ethiopian News Agency reported.
The NISS was able to avert the attack with the cooperation of local and foreign intelligence services.
The news agency reported that authorities believe a second terror cell was also planning to attack the UAE Embassy in Sudan.
The NISS is working closely with Sudanese authorities in search of the suspects.
Meanwhile, officials working with international authorities said Ahmed Ismail the supposed leader of the group, was arrested in Sweden.
