Kuwait Ministry of Education to Sack Expats

Kuwait’s Ministry of Education plans to terminate the employment of more than 400 expatriates, following the instructions of the Civil Service Bureau.

The move is part of the government’s goal to achieve ‘Kuwaitization,’ a policy which aims to place more nationals working in the public sector, eventually creating a workforce that is 100 percent Kuwaiti.

This includes the education ministry, where according to sources, the list of employees to be replaced are already up for approval from authorities.

This, following a bill pushed to the legislation to amend the civil service law, which will prioritize the hiring of Kuwaiti nationals and that expatriates should only be hired if no national is available for such work.
