The Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) has suspended its operations in El Salvador following an attack by an armed group on one of its teams, over the weekend.
The organization said, “MSF activities will be suspended until the causes of this incident are clarified and the safety of its teams is guaranteed,” in a statement.
Said armed group attacked the team while on its way to respond to an emergency call, in the municipality of Ilopango early morning Sunday.
According to MSF, the team was forced to get out of the vehicle, then interrogated, threatened and attacked by the group.
“Our teams must work safely in order to reach those most in need, wherever they are, that is why the medical mission must be respected by all,” said Luis Romero of MSF in San Salvador.
The victims have now received medical attention for the minor injuries they sustained.
