A bomb threat was reported after a suspicious package was spotted at the Wrexham Industrial Estate where the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine is produced.
A bomb squad has been sent and an evacuation order was announced.
The North Wales Police and the Royal Logistic Corps along with plainclothes officers and military service personnel also arrived at the location to secure the suspected bomb.
All roads surrounding the estate has been cordoned off to prevent any outside interference.
“We are currently dealing with an ongoing incident on the Wrexham Industrial Estate. The roads are currently closed and we would ask the public to avoid the area until further notice,” announced the North Wales Police.
The said plant is the fill-and-finish facility for AstraZeneca’s UK supply chain where syringes and ampoules are filled with the finished vaccine.
John Roberts, who runs CMS Wrexham Ltd, next door to the plant reported that a bang was heard at around 11:30 AM local time.
Police have not yet released any information regarding the suspected bomb or whether anyone was hurt.
This is a developing story.
