North Korean acting ambassador to Kuwait has defected to South Korea in 2019, says fellow defector-turned-South Korean legislator.
Ryu Hyun Woo who heads the North Korean embassy in Kuwait, has defected to South Korea in September 2019 says Tae Yong Ho, former diplomat at North Korea.
This, after former acting ambassador to Italy Jo Song Gil also escaped to the South in 2019.
“I decided to defect because I wanted to offer my child a better future,” Ryu reportedly said according to the Maeil Business news.
Ryu is the son-in-law of Jon Il Chun, who was one of the high-ranking officials managing the funds of the Kim family.
Tae said, “No matter how privileged your life is in North Korea, your mind changes when you go abroad and draw comparisons.”
