The Mexican Army reported that several doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been stolen from a public health institution in a hospital in central Morelos state.

Mexico’s Defence Department speculated that a hospital employee was behind the theft and or aided the suspects because the stocks were being guarded by private security.

“This theft was able to be carried out through the dishonesty and greed of a member of the hospital’s vaccination staff,” explained the defence department.

Mexico had only received only about 750,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine which caused distribution problems.

Aside from vaccines, oxygen tanks are being stolen from hospitals and delivery trucks due to a national shortage.

In a government hospital in northern Sonora, an armed man barged in and stole seven oxygen tanks.

In, Tultepec police managed to chase down a  stolen freight truck carrying 44 oxygen tanks.
