A Harris County Texas Public Health doctor allegedly stole a vial of the COVID-19 vaccine while working at a vaccination site.

Dr. Hasan Gokal allegedly stole the vaccine last December 29 and told a fellow employee, who then reported him to supervisors.

Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg said Gokal is charged with theft by a public servant and could earn up to a year in jail and a $4,000 fine.

“He abused his position to place his friends and family in line in front of people who had gone through the lawful process to be there. What he did was illegal and he’ll be held accountable under the law,” said Ogg.

Gokal has already been fired and his case was turned over to the DA’s office.

Harris County Public Health has not yet made a statement on Gokal’s case.
