Fire Breaks Out at Indian Plant of World’s Largest Vaccine Maker

A fire broke out today at the world’s largest vaccine maker, the Serum Institute of India in Pune.

A fire broke out today at the world’s largest vaccine maker, the Serum Institute of India in Pune.

The fire reportedly started at the Manjari complex on the fourth and fifth floor of the SEZ 3 building.

“As per the primary information, three people have been evacuated,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police Namrata Patil.

Firefighters have been deployed to the scene while one building occupant is still missing.

Footage aired by Indian media outlets showed black smoke billowing from the building complex.

It is still unknown what caused the fire but the complex was reported to be still under construction.

Despite the fire, manufacturing operations were not affected including the CovidShield production line which is far away from the site.
