President-elect Joe Biden has reportedly asked US Surgeon General Jerome Adams to resign after he is sworn-in on Wednesday, and select an acting replacement.

The acting replacement is expected to hold the post until Biden’s pick Dr. Vivek Murthy is undergoing Senate confirmation.

Admas has not yet made a statement regarding the resignation request.

Murthy has already served as surgeon general under former President Barack Obama’s term and was part of Biden’s public health advisory committee.

Murthy however was not able to finish his term after President Donald Trump asked him to resign when the administration changed.
