Riverside Natural Foods Recalls Banana Chocolate Chip Date & Nut Bar due to Undeclared Ingredient

Riverside Natural Foods, of Vaughan, ON recalled 8 ounce packages of Good & Gather Banana Chocolate Chip Date & Nut Bar due to an undeclared allergen.

Riverside Natural Foods, of Vaughan, ON recalled 8 ounce packages of Good & Gather Banana Chocolate Chip Date & Nut Bar due to an undeclared allergen.

The mislabeled product contains almonds, a known allergen, which is not declared on the product label.

According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), a person experiencing an allergic reaction to almonds may experience hives, itching or eczema, swelling of the lips, face, tongue and throat, nasal congestion, abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting and dizziness.

The recall was initiated after they discovered that the packaging did not indicate the presence of almonds. Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by an incident whereby inclusion of almond occurred during the sample inspection process.

The production of the Good & Gather Banana Chocolate Chip Date & Nut Bar has been suspended until FDA and the company are certain the product has been corrected.

The recalled product was distributed nationwide in retail stores and through mail orders.

Riverside Natural Foods advised customers who bought the product and have an allergy to almonds to not consume it and to return the product to the place of sale for a full refund.

According to their statement on the matter, no other products or date codes are affected. They apologized for any concern this caused to their consumers and customers and they reassured that they take strict measures to ensure the safety and proper labeling of their products.

There have been no illnesses reported thus far.
