Tesoro’s Trading Co. from Las Vegas, NV recalled frozen Trader Joe’s Lightly Salted Edamame due to potential contamination of Listeria monocytogenes, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections to people with weakened immune systems.

According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Listeria infection can only cause short term effects such as high fever, nausea, headache, abdominal pain and diarrhea for healthy people, however it can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

The recalled product was distributed and sold at Trader Joe’s retail stores only in the Arizona, Southern California, Southern Nevada, and Utah regions.

The recall was initiated after Tesoro’s Trading Co. discovered the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in their sample testing through certified laboratory.

In response to this, the company has ceased further production and distribution of the product immediately.

Tesoro’s Trading co. advises consumers who bought the potentially contaminated product to not consume it and to throw it away or to return it to the place of sale for a full refund.

There have been no reported illnesses thus far from consuming the products.
