Flower Foods, Inc. recalled Canyon Bakehouse Mountain White Bread and Canyon Bakehouse Everything Bagels due to mislabeling.

The recalled product contains barley, which is a gluten, a protein found in wheat. The packaging did not indicate the presence of this, which could be a potential health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to gluten.

According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), common signs and symptoms of an allergic reaction or intolerance to gluten include hives or skin rash, runny nose, headaches, diarrhea, nausea, and sometimes vomiting.

The recalled products were distributed to retail customers in Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming.

In response to this, Flowers Foods, Inc. has issued point-of-sale alerts to its customers to explain why the product is being recalled. In these notices, the company advises their customers who have purchased the product and have an allergy or intolerance to gluten to not eat it.

Instead, they encourage their customers to return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund. They also provide the option to contact them for more information and concerns about the mislabeled product.

There have been no reported illnesses thus far.
