Pakistan experienced a massive blackout plunging the country into darkness after a fault tripped at a power plant on Saturday, authorities said.

The Ministry of Energy said, “The fault tripped in the country’s high transmission, causing the system’s frequency to drop from 50 to 0 in less than a second. Power plants have been shut down due to falling frequencies.”

Power interruptions were usual in the country, but the recent massive blackout was one of its worst.

On Sunday, Federal Minister for Power Omar Ayub Khan said that restorations are underway and that some parts of the country already have their electricity restored.

“Power restoration has been started in Islamabad electric supply areas. Power restoration is being carried out with caution and complete protocol. All our teams are on the ground right now,” the minister said.
