Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine Approved in the UK

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) announced that it has approved the use of the COVID-19 vaccine developed by Moderna.

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) announced that it has approved the use of the COVID-19 vaccine developed by Moderna.

UK’s Department of Health said the Moderna vaccine met the “strict standards of safety, efficacy, and quality” of the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency and ordered an extra 10 million doses of the vaccine after initially ordering 7 million.

The MHRA approved the Moderna vaccine after months of testing involving tens of thousands of people and was found to be 94% effective in preventing Covid, including in the elderly.

The 17 million doses are expected to arrive by spring and would help bolster the UK’s ongoing vaccination program.

“We are delighted to be able to give a positive recommendation for the Moderna vaccine which will help in the roll-out of the COVID-19 vaccination programme, said Professor Sir Munir Pirmohamed, Chair of the Expert Working Group of the Independent Commission on Human Medicines.
