Police Arrest 8 Terror Suspects in North Macedonia

North Macedonian Police have arrested 8 terror suspects with links to the Islamic State, on Sunday.

North Macedonian Police have arrested 8 terror suspects with links to the Islamic State, on Sunday. 

Police arrested the suspects in Kumanovo and Skopje, after the investigation of the Department for Suppression of Organized and Serious Crime with the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The suspects allegedly created a terrorist organization “based on the ideological matrix of the terrorist organization ISIS,” committed murders and destroyed public buildings.

In a statement on Monday, police said the suspects were between the ages 21 and 32, including one who was identified as a member of the ISIS in Syria. 

The men could be in prison for up to 10 years if convicted. 

The men also allegedly procured weapons, ammunition, military equipment and made improvised explosive devices. 

Authorities said that the group mostly communicated through WhatsApp for discussing the transportation of weapons and making of suicide belts.
