German Elder Care Home Workers Hospitalized after COVID-19 Vaccine Overdose

Workers at an elderly residential home in the Vorpommern-Rügen district, Germany were hospitalized after they received five times the recommended amount of the BioNTech-Pfizer vaccine.

Workers at an elderly residential home in the Vorpommern-Rügen district, Germany were hospitalized after they received five times the recommended amount of the BioNTech-Pfizer vaccine.

Among the 8 health workers who received an overdose, half exhibited flu-like symptoms and were sent to a hospital as a precaution.

“I deeply regret the incident. This individual case is due to individual errors. I hope that all those affected do not experience any serious side-effects,” said Vorpommern-Rügen district chief Stefan Kerth.

Vorpommern-Rügen officials defended that BioNtech claimed that larger doses were administered in the first phase of the vaccine study without any major side effects.

Out of the 1.5 million shots that were given worldwide, this is the first incident of an overdose that BioNTech reported.
