Bangladesh will move a second group of Rohingya refugees to Bhasan Char island in the Bay of Bengal despite calls of rights groups to stop the relocation due to safety reasons.

Bangladesh will move a second group of Rohingya refugees to Bhasan Char island in the Bay of Bengal despite calls of rights groups to stop the relocation due to safety reasons.

Authorities have moved the first batch of more than 1,600 early this month.

Humanitarian agencies and rights groups have condemned the relocation, claiming that the boat that they are going to use is very flood-prone and vulnerable to frequent cyclones and could be completely submerged during a high tide.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh says that it is only transferring people who are willing to be relocated to ease chronic overcrowding in camps that are home to more than 1 million Rohingya.
