Hong Kong has reported that the virus strain in two of its cases matched the new strain found in the United Kingdom.

Said cases were two students who arrived from the UK in early December.

Dr. Chuang Shuk-kwan, head of Communicable Disease Branch of the Center for Health Protection (CHP) has reported that more analysis should be done and that the imported cases from Britain was expected.

Chuang also said that one of the two cases have already been discharged from the hospital while the other is still being treated.

Meanwhile, the CHP also reported an additional 53 cases of Covid-19 on Wednesday, bringing the total to 8,354 cases in Hong Kong, including one probable case.

The CHP has called on the public to strictly avoid all non-essential travel, and to maintain strict personal hygiene.
