Argentina and Chile Suspends Flights From United Kingdom over COVID-19 Concerns

The governments of Argentina and Chile announced on Monday morning they will suspend flights to and from the United Kingdom because of COVID-19 concerns.

In a statement, Argentina’s Interior Ministry said that the last flight from the United Kingdom before the suspension starts will be one scheduled to arrive in Buenos Aires Tuesday morning. It also pointed out that Passengers and crew arriving on that flight will have to go into a seven-day quarantine.

Chile’s government said in a separate statement that non-resident foreigners who had been in the United Kingdom over the last 14 days will be banned from entering the country. The statement also said that measure will go into effect at midnight Tuesday and last two weeks.

On Saturday afternoon, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that a new strain of the COVID-19 had led to surging infection numbers, as his government tightened its pandemic restrictions for London and other cities.
