Acting Defense Secretary Chris Miller ordered the Pentagon to stop the transition briefings of President-elect Joe Biden.
Acting Defense Secretary Chris Miller ordered the Pentagon to stop the transition briefings for President-elect Joe Biden.
According to a report from Axios, Miller who replaced former defense secretary Mark Esper after the election, reportedly issued the order throughout the Pentagon to cancel a scheduled meeting with Biden’s team on Thursday night.
Due to the disputed the results of the presidential election, officials in federal departments and agencies involved in the transition process experienced delays for their meetings before Biden officially takes office on January 20, 2021.
“We had fewer than two dozen remaining meetings on the schedule today and next week. The DoD staff working the meetings were overwhelmed by the number of meetings,” an unnamed Pentagon official told Axios.
The unnamed official said the department and agency senior leaders were preoccupied with their current duties and transition activities while expecting more delays because of the holidays.
“With the holidays we are taking a knee for two weeks. We are still committed to a productive transition,” said the official.
The Pentagon has not yet commented on the report.
This is a breaking story.
