Terrorists have attacked an oil tanker at the Jeddah port which resulted to an explosion and fire on the Singapore-flagged BW Rhine.

The crew extinguished the fire and there were no reported injuries or deaths, authorities said.

The Kingdom’s Ministry of Energy in a statement said, “These acts of terrorism and vandalism, directed against vital installations, go beyond the Kingdom and its vital facilities, to the security and stability of energy supplies to the world and the global economy.”

The ministry condemned the attack, citing previous attacks on the country’s oil stations and said, “ the world today, more than ever before, is in an urgent need to stand together against such subversive terrorist acts, and take practical deterrent measures against all terrorist actors that implement and support them.”

Authorities have not identified the persons responsible yet while experts are saying that Houthis may be behind the attack.

Houthi militants claimed the missile attack at the Aramco oil station in Jeddah last November 23.
