Iran’s foreign minister has summoned the German ambassador because of the European Union’s statements that were criticizing the hanging of Ruhollah Zam, an Iranian activist and journalist.

Zam’s website AmadNews and a channel he created  Telegram, one of the popular messaging applications, had spread the timings of the 2017 demonstrations and had exposed embarrassing information about the officials who condemned Iran’s Shiite theocracy.

Zam was detained in Iran after Iranian authorities had seized him while he was traveling in Iraq last year.

The German Foreign Ministry has expressed its shock regarding the circumstances surrounding Zam’s sentencing and his “abduction from abroad” and forced return to Iran.
