Egypt Receives First Batch of SinoPharm Vaccines

Egypt has received its first batch of Chinese Sinopharm’s Covid-19 vaccines, on Thursday.

The vaccines which arrived from the UAE, is 86% effective against the virus. 

Minister of Health Dr. Hala Zayed said Egypt is the first African country to receive the vaccine, and will be available to its citizens for free. 

The minister was accompanied by Chinese and UAE diplomats at the Cairo International Airport for the arrival of the shipment. 

Egyptian health officials said they would first immunize frontline health workers and those with diseases. The health minister also thanked Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi for eagerly procuring the vaccine for its citizens. 

Egypt now has 120,147 total number of Covid-19 cases with 445 new cases as of Thursday.
