Malala Maiwand, a female journalist, has been shot dead in Eastern Afghanistan. She is considered to be the latest victim of a series of assassinations across the country.

Maiwand was on her way to work in Jalalabad on Thursday when gunmen has shot her when she was on her way to her vehicle. Mohammad Tahir, her driver, was also murdered.

The group that has carried out the attack hasn’t be identified yet.

The killings came after Nato and the European Union (EU) has issued a statement criticizing the recent targeted killings in Afghanistan.

Alison Blake, British ambassador to Afghanistan, has called for Thursday’s murders to be fully investigated.

“We must unite to uphold #PressFreedom, their deaths must be investigated and their killers face justice for this wicked act.” Blake wrote.

The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (Unama) has condemned the killings.
