The Ministry of Agriculture of France has detected on a duck farm in southwest of the country the highly pathogenic H5N8 Avian Influenza.

The H5N8 virus, which has never infected humans so far, has been spreading rapidly in wildlife in Europe through different kinds of migratory birds.

According to France’s Ministry of Agriculture, the infected ducks were chosen and a security zone was set up around the farm.

They have also implemented a ban on poultry movement in these areas in order to prevent the spread of the virus.

Three wild swans and one wild goose that was found dead last week have also been detected as carriers of the H5N8 virus.
