Chinese City of Chengdu on High Alert as COVID-19 Cases Rise

Chengdu capital, in Sichuan province, southwestern China has reported that it is now on high alert, as six new cases have emerged as of Tuesday.

Chengdu capital, in Sichuan province, southwestern China has reported that it is now on high alert, as six new cases have emerged as of Tuesday.

Chengdu officials said on Wednesday, that six new cases have been reported with one asymptomatic patient. All seven are now hospitalized in the Chengdu Clinical Center.

They also have identified people who were in close contact with said patients and are now isolating them in quarantine facilities.

An elderly couple tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday in Chengdu, as more than 200,000 residents have been tested in the capital for the virus.

Authorities have now deployed health staffs to conduct epidemiological surveys and tests.

Disinfections are also being done in the communities at least twice a day, officials said.

Officials also urged residents to report to local authorities if they had been in contact with the positive patients, and to take the initiative to be tested.
