United States President-elect Joe Biden has vowed to distribute 100 million vaccines in his first 100 days in office as he formally announced key members of his health team on Dec. 8.

During a briefing in Wilmington, Delaware, Biden revealed his plan to fight the COVID-19 pandemic during his first 100 days in office, which includes a pledge on administering 100 million vaccines during his first 100 days.

Biden also said he needed the Congress to fully fund the nationwide vaccine delivery.

Once approved by the Food and Drug Administration, the first batch of COVID-19 vaccines are expected to be administered to healthcare workers.

Biden also said that his priorities during his first 100 days amid the COVID-19 pandemic include a call for wearing of masks and a push to reopen a majority of the schools in the country.

“I’m absolutely convinced that in 100 days, we can change the course of the disease and change life in America for the better,” Biden said.

Dr. Anthony Fauci called Biden’s plan “doable and essential to help the public avoid unnecessary risks, to help us save lives, reopens schools and businesses, and to eventually beat the pandemic.”

Biden also formally introduced his public health team, which includes California Attorney General Xavier Becerra as secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, Dr. Vivek Murthy as U.S. surgeon general, Fauci as COVID-19 chief medical adviser, and Dr. Rochelle Walensky as head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Biden has also chosen Jeff Zients as COVID-19 response coordinator, Natalie Quillian as  COVID-19 response deputy coordinator, and Dr. Marcella Nunez-Smith as co-chair of the COVID-19 Equity Task Force.
