An IED exploded near Rawalpindi‘s busy bus terminal which killed one person and injured seven others.

Police labeled the incident a terrorist attack and have handed over investigations to the local Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and cordoned off the entire area for investigation.

“One person was killed and seven others wounded. It was a timed device and was planted near a bus terminal,” said Rawalpindi police spokesperson Sajjadul Hassan.

Police explained that the recent blast was similar to the two earlier incidents last March 13 and June 12 in the same city.

Witnesses said that the bomb exploded in a motorcycle rickshaw while people were gathering for prayers and shattered nearby windows with the force of its explosion.

Responding firemen said that they have transported four of the injured to the Holy Family Hospital (HFH) while locals brought four others to the hospital on their own.

Police have not yet released details on who is responsible for the bombing.
