Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro said during a Sunday night press conference in Brasilia that he will wait a little longer before recognizing the US presidential election victory of Democratic nominee Joe Biden.

Speaking with local reporters while casting a ballot in municipal races, President Bolsonaro also echoed US President Donald Trump’s allegations of irregularities in the US vote. “I have my sources of information that there really was a lot of fraud there. Nobody talks about that. If it was enough to define (victory) for one or the other, I don’t know,” the conservative leader said.

Asked if he would recognize Biden’s victory, he said “I am holding back a little more, I’m waiting to see what US authorities determine so I could know who to recognize. Right now things are disputed over there and it would be quite irresponsible for me to recognize anyone.”

President Bolsonaro also expressed doubts about Brazil’s current electronic voting system, which he has suggested is vulnerable to fraud. He has urged Brazil to go back to a paper ballot system for the 2022 presidential election.
