Stock Market Closes Trading Session with Gains

The US stock market jumped after the United of Oxford and AstraZeneca announced their COVID-19 vaccine was up to 90 percent effective, raising hopes among investors of a quick economic recovery.

On Monday, the Dow Jones closed jumped 1.1 percent, to close at 29.591.27, while the S&P 500 gained 0.6 percent to close the day at 3,577.59, and the Nasdaq 100 advanced 0.2 percent to close at 11,880.63.

In Asia, the HSI jumped 0.13 percent to be at 26486.20, while Japan’s NIKKEI fell 0.42 percent to be at 25527.37, and China’s SHANGHAI jumped 1.09 percent to be at 3414.49. In European markets, the STOXX fell 0.29 percent to be at 3058.35 and the FTSE fell 0.28 percent to be at 6333.84.

In commodities, oil prices jumped 1.13 percent to be at $42,90 per barrel, while natural gas prices jumped 2.15 percent to be at $2,71 per BTU.

Meanwhile, platinum prices fell 0.06 percent to be at $931,01 per ounce while copper prices jumped 0.03 percent to be at $3,26 per pound. Also, gold prices fell 0.13 percent to be at $1,835 per ounce and silver prices fell 0.14 percent to be at $23,60 per ounce.

In currencies, the Euro jumped 0.1423 percent to be at $0,8447 per US dollar, while the Yen jumped 0.6163 percent or 0.6400 points and the Sterling fell 0.2920 percent to be at $0,7512 per US dollar.
