Snap Launches Spotlight to Rival with TikTok and Instagram Reels

Snap has officially launched a new Snapchat feature called Spotlight that would surface the most entertaining video content from users all in one place instead of the day-in-the-life content that the platform previously promoted, competing with other video-sharing platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels.

The new entertainment platform would flash the top snaps that could be seen by more than 249 million members of the Snapchat community. Spotlight would play the clips in a continuous loop that users can tap through or swipe to the next one.

Snap launched the new feature as an attempt to lure users and boost the amount of entertaining content available for its platform users. Users would provide access to an endless feed to its users in a centralized location based on their preferences and favorites.

To promote the use of the new feature, Snap said that it would give more than $1 million in prize money to creators that would get the most views for their posts within the 24-hour time frame.

Spotlight would also allow Snapchat users to share their posts publicly while remaining anonymous to strangers.

The new feature is going to be available to all Snapchat users in the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, and France starting on Monday.
