US Labels Israeli ‘Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS)’ as Anti-Semitic

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has called the Palestinian Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) Campaign anti-Semitic, on Thursday.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has called the Global BDS Campaign anti-Semitic, on Thursday.

In a statement, Pompeo said that they will identify organizations involved  in “hateful BDS conduct and withdraw US government support for such groups when the time is right”.

Pompeo reiterated this in a tweet, saying “The U.S. is committed to countering the Global BDS Campaign as a manifestation of anti-Semitism. I am directing U.S. Special Envoy to identify organizations engaged in politically motivated actions intended to penalize or limit commercial relations with Israel.”

They will also be initiating guidelines to ensure that Israeli goods exported to the US would be marked as “Israel”, “Product of Israel”, or “Made in Israel,” especially in Area C where Israel has authority under the Oslo Accords.

On the other hand, US Department of State announced that goods coming from the West Bank where there is Palestinian authority would be marked as products of “West Bank”, while those produced in Gaza, be marked as  products of “Gaza”.

“We will continue to oppose those countries and international institutions which delegitimize or penalize Israel and Israeli producers in the West Bank through malicious measures that fail to recognize the reality on the ground,” the State Department said.
