Audi announced on Wednesday night that Bugatti President Stephan Winkelman will also become the head of luxury brand Automobili Lamborghini, taking on a double from December.

According to a Business Insider report, the move comes at a time when Audi’s owner Volkswagen is legally separating its Lamborghini, supercar and Ducati motorbike brands, as the company makes efforts to streamline its operations and focus on mass-producing electric vehicles.

The media outlet pointed out that Winkelmann will succeed Stefano Domenicali as the Lamborghini chief, who will move to the Formula One as head of racing.

On Twitter, CNN’s Xabier Serbia said is the result of COVID-19 pandemic and how the virus crisis has affected sales. “Automakers make these types of moves every time there’s a major crisis. After all, most companies tend to take unorthodox methods to recover as fast as possible. Some could define it as a little crisis, but I would say is the biggest example of doing the unexpected to reach the greatest results.”
