Undercover agents of the Venezuelan regime kidnapped on Sunday an exiled Venezuelan businessman in the Brazilian border town of Pacaraime, shooting him in a leg and forcing him into an SUV in order to cross into Venezuelan territory.

The operation failed in the end when the truck got stuck in the mud.

According to an El Nacional report, people close to the exiled Venezuelan businessman Andres Antonio Fernandez said they fear that the frustrated operation is the first of a series of similar actions to be perpetrated against people perceived as enemies of the Venezuelan regime on Colombia and Brazil. Fernandez is the owner of a Brazilian radio station that supports Brazi’s President Jair Bolsonaro and is critical of socialist dictator Nicolas Maduro.

“They have orders to take dead or alive people that have been taking actions against that government. They were unable to take him away because the community of Santa Elena de Uairén, on the Venezuelan side of the border, came out to save him when the truck got stuck in the dirt,” a person close to Fernández told el the newspaper on condition of anonymity.
