Poland has recorded 548 new Covid-19 deaths on Saturday, the highest daily count so far, the health ministry said.

On Monday, the Polish Health Ministry has reported that total deaths are now at 10,491 and 20,816 new Covid-19 cases.

The highest number of cases come from Śląskie at 3,322 cases, Mazowieckie, where its capital Warsaw is located, at 2,436 and Wielkopolskie at 2,400.

The health ministry, in a tweet, has now reported a total number of  733,788 cases.

The record high deaths on Saturday came after Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced on Thursday that there was no need to impose a nationwide lockdown as the cases started to decrease.

Poland has imposed stricter measures on the first week of this month to curb the rising number of cases such as closing of malls except for groceries and drugstores, and distance learning for schools and universities.
