The Chinese government has arrested Zhang Zhan, a 40-year-old Chinese journalist, who had been reporting on COVID-19 on social media.

Zhang has uploaded her stories to social media from the Hubei province where the coronavirus outbreak originated.

She has released footage of crematoriums operating late into the night in the city as death tolls increased.

Zhang had also visited quarantined hospitals and the perimeter of the virus-study laboratory in the city, which has been allegedly the source of the coronavirus outbreak.

She was charged with “provocation and trouble making” and could face up to seven years in jail.

Zhang is now one of the four citizen journalists that is known to have been arrested after they have posted on their accounts about the coronavirus.
