Argentina tightened its border security after authorities received a tip of a bomb plot targeting the local Jewish community.

The Argentine Security Ministry said that they received an anonymous tip sent to the UK embassy warning that a person was seeking to ship ammonium nitrate from Paraguay to bomb a Jewish objective.

Argentinian authorities said they had already launched an investigation to identify the tipster and have tightened its security on its shared border with Paraguay.

Argentina had expressed concerns because it has the largest Jewish population in Latin America and after it experienced a car bomb attack in a Jewish center in Buenos Aires in 1994 which killed 85 people.

In 1992, there was also a car bombing in front of the Israeli embassy which left at least 29 people dead.
