Stock Market Closes Trading Session with Gains

The US stock market jumped as upbeat earnings reports helped to drive optimism among investors about the economy along with hopes for successful COVID-19 vaccines.

The US stock market jumped as upbeat earnings reports helped to drive optimism among investors about the economy along with hopes for successful COVID-19 vaccines.

On Friday, the Dow Jones jumped 1.37 percent to close at 29,479.81, while the S&P 500 jumped 1.36 percent to close at 3,585.15, and the Nasdaq 100 jumped 0.94 percent to close at 11,937.84.

In Asia, the HSI fell 0.05 percent to be at 26156.86, while Japan’s NIKKEI fell 0.53 percent to be at 25385.87 and China’s SHANGHAI fell 0.86 percent to be at 3310.10. In European markets, the STOXX fell 0.18 percent to be at 3051.50 while the FTSE fell 0.36 percent to be at 6316.39.

In commodities, oil prices fell 2.04 percent to be at $40,28 per barrel, while natural gas prices jumped 1.58 percent to be at $3,02 per BTU.

Meanwhile, platinum prices fell 0.18 percent to be at $894,40 per ounce while copper prices jumped 0.06 percent to be at $3m18 per pound. Also, gold prices fell 0.08 percent to be at 1,884 per ounce and silver prices fell 0.22 percent to be at $24,72 per ounce.

In currencies, the Euro fell 0.1653 to be at $0,8455 per US dollar, while the Yen fell 0.4756 percent or 0.5000 points and the Sterling fell 0.4854 percent to be at $0,7596 per US dollar.
