ICO Fines Ticketmaster for Failing Secure Customer’s Personal Data

The UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office fined Ticketmaster UK Limited $1.6 million on Friday afternoon for failing to secure its customer’s personal data.

The UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office fined Ticketmaster UK Limited $1.6 million on Friday afternoon for failing to secure its customer’s personal data.

The agency found that Ticketmaster failed to impose the proper security measures in order to prevent any type of cyber-attack on the chat-bot that was installed on its official online payment website, amounting to a breach of the General Data Protection Regulation.

The investigation of the Information Commissioner’s Office found that the inclusion of the chat-bot on Ticketmaster’s online payment website enabled a cybercriminal to get full access to customers’ financial details.

The investigation also found that the company’s chat-bot was hosted by a third party named Inbenta Technologies.

The agency pointed out that the data breach included names, payment card numbers, expiry dates and even CVV numbers of Ticketmaster’s customers.

Almost 9.4 million customers across Europe, including 1.5 million in the United Kingdom, were potentially affected by the cyber-attack.
