Chief Palestinian Negotiator Saeb Erekat Dies From COVID-19

Saeb Erekat, a Palestinian who has been a politician for 40 years, has died from the novel coronavirus at the age of 65.

Saeb Erekat, a Palestinian who has been a politician for 40 years, has died from the novel coronavirus at the age of 65.

Erekat’s infection was complicated due to a history of health issues. 

He underwent a lung transplant in 2017 and suffered from a bacterial infection in addition to COVID-19.

Over the decades, Erekat was one of the most recognizable faces in Palestine. 

He served as a senior negotiator in talks with Israel and he often made media appearances.

Erekat was also the senior advisor to Arafat, the former chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization, and the current president Mahmoud Abbas.
