Venezuelan interim president Juan Guaido and socialist dictator Nicolas Maduro congratulated Democratic nominee and former Vice President Joe Biden on his victory in the US presidential election.

On Saturday, Maduro wrote on his Twitter account that “Venezuela … will always be ready for dialogue and understanding with the people and government of the US.” His socialist regime has been hit by multiple economic sanctions by the Trump administration over the last two years.

Meanwhile, Guaido wrote on his official Twitter account that he and Biden would “work together to secure the restoration of democracy, freedom and human rights to the Venezuelan people.” Guaido’s interim presidency has been receiving support from the Trump administration in its bid to oust Maduro.

Elsewhere, Colombian President Ivan Duque, Argentinean President Alberto Fernandez and Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra were other South American leaders to congratulate Biden. Fernandez also pointed to Kamala Harris making history as the “the first woman vice-president in the United States.”
