Stock Market Closes Trading Session with Mixed Gains

The US stock market closes the trading session with mixed gains as the first positive data from a late-stage COVID-19 vaccine trial by pharmaceutical giant Pfizer prompted hopes among investors in the United States and all over the world that an economic recovery from the virus crisis was in sight.

On Monday, the S&P 500 jumped 3.6 percent to more than 3,600, while the Dow Jones gained 835 points, or 2.8 percent, and the Nasdaq 100 fell 1.5 percent or 181.45 points.

In Asia, the HSI jumped 1.18 percent or 303.20 points, while Japan’s NIKKEI jumped 2.12 percent or 514.61 points, and China’s SHANGHAI jumped 1.86 percent or 61.57 points. 

In European markets, the STOXX jumped 4.17 percent or 121.01 points and the FTE jumped 4.67 percent or 276.27 points.

In commodities, oil prices fell 0.12 percent to be at $40,24 per barrel, while natural gas prices jumped 0.01 percent to be at $2,86 per BTU.

Meanwhile, platinum prices jumped 0.37 percent to be at $870,60 per ounce while copper prices fell 0.11 percent to be at $3,15 per pound. Also, gold prices jumped 0.65 percent to be at $1,866 per ounce and silver prices jumped 2.25 percent to be at $24,24 per ounce.

In currencies, the Euro jumped 0.4039 percent to be at $0,8452 per US dollar, while the Yen jumped 2.0130 percent or 2.0800 points and the Sterling fell 0.0658 percent to be at $0,7591 per US dollar.
