China delays its congratulations to President-elect Joe Biden’s victory pending the outcome of the votes.

At its regular press briefing on Monday, China said it has “noticed” President-elect Joe Biden’s declaration of election victory.

Foreign minister spokesman Wang Wenbin said, “Our understanding is that the outcome of the election will be determined in accordance with US laws and procedures.” Incumbent President Donald Trump and his team has vowed to legally contest Biden’s victory.

Spokesman Wang Wenbin instead said that two nations “should enhance communication and dialogue, manage differences on the basis of mutual respect, expand cooperation on the basis of mutual benefit and promote sound and stable development of bilateral relations”.

Despite this, Biden has tweeted on Sunday, “The work ahead of us will be hard, but I promise you this: I will be a President for all Americans — whether you voted for me or not.”

Aside from China, Russia, Brazil and Mexico have yet to extend their congratulations to the US President-elect.
