Putin Disputes UK News Report That He was Planning to Resign Because of Poor Health

The Kremlin has denied that President Vladimir Putin is planning to quit after a UK tabloid reported that he is suffering from ill health and may step down as early as January.

The Kremlin has denied that President Vladimir Putin is planning to quit after a UK tabloid reported that he is suffering from ill health and may step down as early as January.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov reassured the public that Putin was still in good health and fit to lead.

“No, he is in excellent health,” said Peskov in response to the story The Sun published.

According to The Sun’s report observers studied recent footage where Putin’s leg appeared to be in constant motion while he seemed to be in pain clutching the armrest of a chair while his fingers seemed to be twitching while he held a cup believed to contain painkillers.

Daily Mail has added that Putin displayed a “gunslinger’s gait,” which according to the  British Medical Journal is a manifestation of Parkinson’s disease.

Putin’s critic Professor Valery Solovei also claimed that Putin’s gymnast lover Alina Kabaeva, as well as his daughters Maria Vorontsova, 35, Katerina Tikhonova, 34, were convincing him to step down.

The report came after the lower house of Russia’s legislature drafted a law that could provide Russian ex-presidents immunity from criminal prosecution in their lifetimes and would allow Putin to run again when his term ends in 2024.
