France Condemns Erdogan Over Islam Row, Threatens Sanctions

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan raised the possibility of new sanctions against Ankara.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan raised the possibility of new sanctions against Ankara.

Erdogan has been feuding with French President Emmanuel Macron due to a number of geopolitical reasons and France’s fight against what it claims as “radical” Islam.

“There are now declarations of violence, even hatred, which are regularly posted by president Erdogan which are unacceptable,” said French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian.

Tensions have increased after problems with top officials, Macron and the French public renew their support to show caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad, which are deeply offensive to Muslims as they conflate violence and Islam.
