Precious Metals Retailer JM Bullion Hacked, Customer Data Stolen

Hackers have stolen the personal information and payment details of customers who made purchases with the precious metals dealer JM Bullion in a cyberattack in an attack that lasted six months.

Hackers have stolen the personal information and payment details of customers who made purchases with the precious metals dealer JM Bullion in a cyberattack in an attack that lasted six months.

JM Bullion disclosed that a malicious code had been embedded into its online shopping platform last July which allowed hackers to steal the customer info that was entered into their system.

According to a JMBullion’s Notice of Data Security Incident,’ the hacking occurred during mid-February 2020,

JM Bullion explained that they have begun an investigation, with the assistance of a third-party forensic specialist, to assess the nature and scope of the incident. 

“JM Bullion takes the security of personal information in its care very seriously,” said the company’s CEO Michael Wittmeyer. 

Customers who made a payment during the time the JM Bullion shopping was breached were only notified this week that their info was possibly stolen.

It was believed that the breach was MageCart attack which involved inject malicious JavaScript scripts into various web site sections to steal customer info before sending it to the attacker’s server.

The name and address, as well as payment card details including account number, card expiration date, and the security code required to make purchases from customers, were believed to have been taken by the hackers. 

JM Bullion advises all customers who made purchases on JM Bullion’s site between February 18th, 2020, to July 17th, 2020 to monitor their credit card statements for fraudulent activity.
